Verkligheten

Vi hade både tur och otur med vädret. De tre första dagarna hade vi fantastiskt väder - strålande sol och lite lagom vind. På toppturen till Niják lyckades både jag och min vän bränna oss i solen.

Jag och min vän hade planerat en fyra dagar lång vandring runt Grövelsjön i mitten av maj. Det visade sig dock snabbt vara i det närmaste omöjligt på grund av blötsnön. Vi hade räknat med att det skulle vara blött och bitvis snö fortfarande, men hade underskattat mängden snö som fortfarande låg kvar trots en mild vinter med relativt lite snöfall.

I’ve been an iPhone user for at least six or seven years now. Switching from Android to iOS, or rather from Google to Apple, felt like such a good thing from a privacy perspective. I could finally use services offered by the platform instead of having to look for privacy respecting alternatives, and trust the OS to not spy on my for marketing purposes.

The annual family trip to Italy led to San Pietro in Bevagna, a two hour trip south from Bari. A very sleepy town but with a fantastic beach. We took the opportunity to visit the farm where my mothers horse were bred, and met the very wholesome family which raised him. After a tour of the whole ranch, we sat down together and they offered us home made mozzarella and other goodies.

I recently got a Homey Energy Dongle, which is a tiny device that can be used to feed Home Assistant with data from your smart energy meter as long as it has a HAN-port. I wanted to connect it to Home Assistant to get the overall energy consumption data.

Calibre Web Automated with Docker and Kobo

I have a Kobo Libra 2 and I love it, but one hassle has been to load books onto it. I do buy some books on Kobo Store, but most often I buy the book physically and then copy a DRM-free version to my ebook-reader. To streamline that process, I have wanted to setup Calibre in order to facilitate the transfer of the .epub-file to my Kobo. I have a server but currently not a desktop computer, so Calibre is not a good option, since it has to run in a GUI.

I need to work on my view on money. Ever since I started earning my own money, I’ve been keen on spending them. Part of my spending have gained me some really good experiences, such as getting a boat and a motorbike, but I do spend too much money on stuff that doesn’t matter. For 2025 to work out, I have to become better at managing my money, given that we’re getting married this year as well as moving to a house.

This became my last streak day. 138 days. I had a few rough days in succession and by the end of it I was having a fever and coughing. I’m proud of my 138 days, but I’m hesitant to restart a new streak since I feels it’s hard to combine with other types of training. I want to be able to fully exhaust myself on a spinning workout and have a recovery day afterwards. I also want to be able to have longer runs with a rest day. We’ll see - if I start slacking with the spinning and such, I might start a streak again.

Access HAOS remotely via Tailscale

This applies to the HAOS flavour of Home Assistant running on a Raspberry PI.

Download and install the Tailscale community addon. The official addon is just for displaying info - not routing etc.
Enable the addon and sign in to Tailscale.
Go to Settings > Addons > Tailscale > Configuration and enable Show unused optional configuration options.
Enable Tailscale Proxy and save.
In configuration.yaml of your HA instance, add localhost as an allowed proxy source:

Go to the Tailscale DNS admin console and pick a Tailnet name, enable MagicDNS and down at the bottom, enable HTTPS.
Restart the Tailscale addon in HA.

You should now be able to access your HA instance via the Tailscale IP (100.x.x.x) or MagicDNS (your-ha-hostname.x.ts.net) on port 443 with a valid certificate.

Getting to Treriksröset

On June 26th I took the train towards Kiruna on the first leg that would take me to the top of Sweden - Treriksröset. The train ride was horrible - the train operators in Sweden do hate bikes. I knew I wasn’t allowed to bring the bike as-is on the train, so I had bought a rather expensive bike bag with wheels and all. It soon became apparent that the bag was too large, so the conductor threatened to throw it of at the next station if I couldn’t find a good spot for it.

Goals for 2021

I had defined a few goals for this year, the top three being:

Aquire a boat.
Read more; 10 books minimum.
Build and release a new app.

Aquire a boat

I did in fact aquire a boat - a Maxi 95. In February we went to Sölvesborg to take a look at her and decided to buy her, though the current owners hadn’t decided if they were ready to sell her yet. A week later we got a call and the rest is history.

Repairing the scroll wheel button on Mionix Naos 7000

A common problem with the Mionix Naos 7000 is that the scroll wheel click button breaks. As it feels wasteful to throw an otherwise fully functioning mouse just becase one switch breaks I decided to try to fix it. So I ordered a pack of EVQP0E07K Micro Switch and began breaking into the mouse.

I recently came across xsecurelock. It is an alternative to xscreensaver and other lockscreens, which focuses on security.

Out-of-the-box it just render a black screen as lockscreen, but with some configuration and elbow grease it is possible to make it pretty similar to i3lock-fancy – at least the “blurry desktop” part of it.
